"Farmer Doug" has had quite a life! Born on a dairy farm near Hayward, Wisconsin, he moved to California in 1980. Since then he's worked as an engineer in the tech industry, a large part of that work either in the Silicon Valley and / or South East Asia. During that time his passion for Pacific Rim food became an obsession, learning recipes as he traveled and staying close to his roots, growing gardens every time he had the chance.

His world changed dramatically when in 2010 he was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The condition was complicated with diabetes. It was a long difficult test, but with great medical care, a loving family, and supportive friends, he's back! 

And fusing three great, lifelong passions - engineering, farming, and cooking! Part of his comeback story appeared in Men's Health online addition in October of 2017. The comeback was also highlighted in a CBS News 8 story (below) broadcast in November of 2017, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society web page. Recently, well known sports writer Doug Williams submitted this story to  The San Diego Union Tribune.
